Have you ever considered becoming a social media manager or consultant? A few years ago, I would have never thought it was possible for me to run my own business doing what I love…being SOCIAL! Seriously, I get paid to be online all day & help other businesses increase their social media presence, develop marketing strategies, increase sales, & engage with their clients in ways they never thought possible.
If this is something that appeals to you, I'd love to share what brought me to this place & how you can do the same.
I have been extremely social since I was a child. In fact, I was in trouble for “talking too much” starting in kindergarten & continued to be reprimanded throughout my school years. Oops! I have always been fascinated with technology & finding ways to communicate with people near & far. So, social media was right up my alley. I jumped on MySpace quickly & moved on to Facebook & every other social media platform as they were released.
In 2012, I became the Social Media Manager for a non-profit organization, Pancreatic Cancer Action Network Denver Affiliate. This was the turning point for my career in social media. I quickly realized how much I enjoyed the social interaction & putting my MBA with a specialization in Marketing to good use. I was helping non-profits, organizations, & small businesses increase awareness, engagement with followers, & ultimately, sales. I spent a few years trying to figure everything out on my own (I was mildly successful). In the fall of 2013 I started seriously considering doing this full-time & looking at (& following/engaging) leaders in the industry. You know, the people that are successful!
I found Andrea Vahl & Phyllis Khare with the Social Media Manager School (#SMMS). I didn't hesitate to sign-up for school when it opened. After all, what did I have to lose? I was so excited to get started learning the in's & out's of being a social media manager. Andrea & Phyllis do an amazing job of walking you through everything from the basics, to the complexities of pricing, finding clients, creating content, & so much more!
