Why I’m Loving Snapchat!
…and why you should too
If you aren’t on Snapchat already – you should be! It’s one of the most fun & engaging platforms. I put together my Top 10 list of why you should be on #Snap!
First, here are some stats on Snapchat:
- Snapchat has 100 million active daily users.
- 86% of Snapchat’s users fall into the 13 – 37 age range.
- 5+ billion videos are viewed on Snapchat each day.
(Thanks Social Media Examiner for this great getting started guide)
The age demographic is changing quickly though – I’m over 37 & know many others on the platform daily over that age range. Sorry kids, Snapchat isn’t just for you anymore!
Snapchat is hands down one of best ways to connect with new people. I recommend connecting with everyone who connects with you. It’s a great way to get your name out there & meet others. I firmly believe in building relationships with others online & making a connection. I try to send a welcome and thanks for following video to each new connection. This helps you get to know who you are following better & they get to know you as well.
Snapchat offers a way to tell stories through images & short 10 second or less videos. Be creative in your story telling. Don’t use the same boring camera angles all the time. Mix it up with your photos, emojis, text, and videos. Check out my story talking about multiple streams of income: Snap Stories
Snapchat offers fun filters. New filters come out daily & some days it helps you with the creativity process. You can build our Snapchat story around a filter. To use the filters all you need to do is hold the screen when you are in selfie mode & the various filters will pop up.
The latest version of Snapchat offers the ability to send GIF’s to users in a private message. Personally, I am a big fan of GIF’s as a way to show expression when you aren’t able to send a video.
#5 LIVE VIDEO CHATS
The live video chat option allows you to connect with users much like you can with FaceTime. It’s a good way to get to know someone better if you aren’t directly connected to them.
Snapchat allows you to start conversations directly with other users. Conversations can be videos (which I encourage), text, GIF’s, live chat, or phone calls.
There is a feature in Snapchat that lets you discovery brands. Some brands are doing a great job on Snapchat. Check it out. I’d love to hear what your favorite brands are doing on Snapchat.
So, Snapchat is ALL about the fun, but if you are on Snapchat you should also be helping others by providing good information. Always try to give your followers something informative or educational if possible. You don’t need to do it everyday, but people need a reason to pay attention to you.
You can watch events happening LIVE around the world easily. Today, I discovered it was “Pillow Fight” day around the world. Who knew?
Geofilters are the bomb dot com, period. It’s one of the best parts about Snapchat. The geofilters vary by where you are located & you can do special geofilters for events you are hosting. It’s a simple process to get your own custom geofilter. Be on the lookout for a my custom geofilter in a few weeks!
